GROZNYJ VAVILA I TЁTKA ARINA | „Der grausame Vavila und Tantchen Arina“

On 23 February 1917, female textile workers in Petrograd went on strike and rallied to demand ‘bread and peace’. Their protests marked the start of the February Revolution. That name has lasted, even though – following the calendar reform in Russia – the Gregorian equivalent of the date was declared Women’s Day: 8 March. The film also takes place on an 8th of March, in a nameless Russian village.
